If you're preparing for surgery, our Perioperative Assessment for Clinical Enhancement (PACE) Clinic helps get you ready for your procedure with confidence.
Our goal is to optimise your health, reduce risks and improve your overall surgical experience.
Our expert multidisciplinary team of perioperative doctors, nurses and allied health professionals provide a thorough pre-surgery assessment tailored to your needs. They will create a personalised plan that helps prepare you for surgery.

Eligibility
You may be referred to PACE Clinic if you:
- Are having major surgery
- Have a pre-existing condition like diabetes, heart problems or lung, liver or kidney disease
- Have experienced complications with previous surgeries
- Your surgeon or doctor believes it will benefit you

What to expect
You can eat before your appointment (no need to fast) and your visit may last up to 90 minutes, depending on your surgery.
During your visit, we’ll ask about your health goals and preferences. This ensures we provide care that aligns with your expectations.
You’ll receive a comprehensive assessment that prepares you for surgery. This includes:
- Comprehensive health review: We’ll assess your medical history, medications and existing conditions
- Physical exams & tests: You may undergo blood tests, ECGs, lung function tests or other relevant diagnostics
- Optimisation advice: If necessary, we’ll recommend lifestyle changes, medication adjustments and referrals to specialists
- Personalised perioperative plan: We’ll create a detailed plan to ensure coordinated care before, during and after surgery
- Education & support: We’ll provide information on anaesthesia, pain management and post-surgery expectations to help you feel confident and prepared.
What to do before your appointment
Please complete your health questionnaire via our secure eAdmission healthscope.eadmissions.com.au portal at least one (1) week before your appointment.

What to bring to your appointment
Please bring the following to help us with your assessment:
- A recent patient health summary from your GP (including allergies, medical and surgical history, medications, and immunisation history)
- Recent test results (blood work, radiology, etc.)
- Letters from any specialists you’ve seen in the past 12 months
- Any recent hospital discharge summaries
- Medicare card, concession or health care cards (e.g., Pensioner Concession, Health Care, DVA card)
- Your medications in their original packaging
- Any relevant documents such as an Advance Care Directive or Power of Attorney

Referrals
Referrals to PACE Clinic are made by Norwest Private Hospital specialists and doctors. GPs cannot refer and patients cannot refer themselves.
Fees
There is a $100 out-of-pocket gap fee for patients attending PACE Clinic with a valid Medicare card.
If you're an overseas patient or don’t have a valid Medicare card, please email the PACE team for a quote via PACEnorwest@healthscope.com.au.
