The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) Quality Assurance and Continuing Professional Development Program (QA & CPD) includes the promotion of GP participation in effective and efficient quality assurance and continuing professional development by encouraging and identifying high-quality activities for GPs.
Healthscope has achieved both Endorsed Provider (Category 2) and Accredited Provider (Category 1) status with the RACGP.
Our dedicated continuation of education programs assists General Practitioners to fulfil their accreditation criteria set out by the RACGP.

At this webinar, you will hear from a leading Interventional and Structural Cardiologist and Cardiologist, Electrophysiologist & Pacemaker Surgeon present what's new in the diagnosis and management of Atrial fibrillation (AF). They will provide an update on the new guidelines, evidence and recommendations released by the National Heart Foundation of Australia (NHFA) and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ). New recommendations on atrial fibrillation, incorporating new evidence that has been graded on the certainty of evidence and the likely absolute benefit versus harm. Evidence and recommendations include the new risk factors (obesity, sleep apnoea, sedentary lifestyle), the use of catheter ablation treatment, combining anticoagulants and antiplatelets, a change in the stroke predictions score (the sexless CHA2DS2-VA score) and recommendations for integrated management.

Dr Peter Fahmy MBChB PhD FRACP
General Cardiologist @Norwest Private Hospital
Dr Peter Fahmy is a general cardiologist with an interest in interventional and structural heart disease management. Dr Fahmy was awarded his Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Medicine at the University of Otago, New Zealand in 2004. He then completed physician training in general medicine at Westmead Hospital followed by cardiology advanced training at Monash HEART in Melbourne. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2011. Dr Fahmy was awarded his PhD in gene therapy from the University of Sydney in 2015. With a keen interest in interventional cardiology, Dr Fahmy undertook a Fellowship in Interventional and Structural Cardiology at the prestigious Vancouver General Hospital and St Paul’s Hospital in Canada. Dr Fahmy trained under the direction of Professor John Webb, the pioneer for percutaneous Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI).
Dr Ajita Kanthan MBBS BMedSc PhD FRACP FCSANZ
Cardiologist, Electrophysiologist & Pacemaker Surgeon @Norwest Private Hospital
Dr Ajita Kanthan is a pioneer in the use of radiationfree procedural techniques, having performed the first radiation-free trans-venous pacemaker implant in Australia. He is currently the only cardiologist in the country performing this pacemaker technique on a regular basis. The significance of radiation-free techniques is highlighted by the fact that traditional trans-venous device implant methods rely on the use of X-rays, with radiation doses that can reach up to the equivalent of about 500 chest x-rays. Dr Kanthan also performed the first radiation-free cardiac ablations of both supra-ventricular and ventricular rhythm disorders in Sydney. He is a national and international trainer on device implantation and radiation-free procedural techniques.
PTSD – A guide for General Practitioners
Description
This update has been developed with a GP focus in order to expand the understanding of early diagnostic and management strategies for patients presenting with signs and symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Psychiatrists with extensive experience in this subspecialty will review and examine evidence, patient case studies and the available diagnostic and treatment options available to General Practitioners and their patients. This activity will guide GPs through the early identification of PTSD and the most current recommendations for pharmacological and psychological intervention.
Learning Outcomes:
- Make a diagnosis of PTSD and differentiate it from conditions with similar symptoms.
- Obtain a history in a sensitive manner and obtain sensitive information.
- Identify risk factors for developing PTSD
- Commence appropriate pharmacotherapy and refer for appropriate Psychological and Psychiatric therapy
Inguinal Hernia - Symptoms, Diagnosis, Referral, Repair
Description
This update has been developed with a GP focus in order to expand knowledge on diagnosis, appropriate referral, treatment and post-operative care of patients presenting with an Inguinal Hernia. Delegates will be provided with extensive information on the surgical techniques offered to treat patients once diagnosed with an Inguinal Hernia. General Practitioners will be given the confidence to manage these patients and know when to refer to a specialist for further intervention and care.

Provide an overview of patient treatment and management plans & assist GP's in the diagnosis & management pathways for common respiratory presentations and provide pathways for referral.
